Liberty (aviation sports) Aerospace Updates Aero-TV On The XL-2 Program

More info…

Are The Hard Times Behind Them?

To all appearances, things would seem to be looking up at Liberty Aerospace. With the recently announced availability of the Aspen EFIS system, and the announcement of a new advanced XL2 Vanguard Edition, Liberty hopes to be one of the survivors in an increasingly problematic GA market.

The latest model of the FADEC-equipped two seat touring and training aircraft offers a Gross Weight increase to 1,750 pounds, and toe-brakes, WAAS enabled Garmin GPS avionics, Jeppesen Terrain Database, and entry steps, as standard equipment.

New optional avionics include the all-digital Aspen Evolution Pro Primary Flight Display (PFD) system, Garmin GTX 330 Transponder with Traffic Avoidance, and GPS-coupled S-TEC 30 Dual Axis Autopilot. An Insight True Flow 500 Fuel Flow Computer, coupled directly to the GPS for live in-flight fuel management, is also available.

“After recently celebrating the delivery of Serial Number 100 of the Liberty XL2, we are excited to now launch this advanced model and reach another milestone in the continued development of the XL2,” said Keith Markley, President and CEO of Liberty Aerospace. “The new gross weight allows a generous payload of 420 pounds with full fuel, and toe brakes will enable Flight Schools to offer more conformity in their training programs. Add WAAS-enabled GPS avionics with Traffic Avoidance for maximum utilization of our Certified IFR capability, and the FADEC equipped Vanguard XL2 pulls far away from what little competition we had in the certified two-place market.”

The Vanguard model also sports a new blue-tone decal design, and the entry steps offer easier access to the cabin over the wing. Finger brakes — often preferred by private owners for their simplicity and ease of maintenance, but increasingly rare on training aircraft — will still be available as optional equipment.

Deliveries of the new model are expected to begin in early summer of this year.

PFL in India

PFL(Practise Forced Landing)at Mysore with Sqr Cmd (retd) Ashok Mehta.

In India they practise with the engine switched off!

You also have to watch for people and goats crossing the runway…

It was a bit of a different experience to the sort of flying I’ve been doing in the UK with fixed wing aircraft.

Still, once you’re up in the air the principles remain the same.

What IS different are the microlight machines I flew.

Ashok gradually introduced me to flying with less and less equipment and instrumentation and hence I had to rely more and more on piloting skills and (so important ) airmanship.

I was surprised to find the flying a lot more enjoyable than I thought and I was only concerned with the pure act of flying the aircraft.

This is probably how aviators used to fly 70 or 80 years ago, feeling the aircraft literally “by the seat of their pants”.

Aero-TV Gets Updated On Flight Design’s NEW CTLS

Tom Peghiny Reveals Many Upgraded Features For CTLS

The CTLS is ready for the LSA biz… Barely eleven years after the first CT entered production in June 1997, the Flight Design Team is introducing their latest bird… the new ‘CTLS.’ Similar to the preceding CT models, the changes are cosiderable since the new LS model was designed to address customer requests from the last two years.

Despite the addition of numerous equipment items the CTLS is just 5-7 lbs heavier than an Advanced CTSW with the same equipment.

In the LS interior, the seats have been redesigned and the noise level reduced to underline the long range capability of the CTLS. The cabin has been resculpted to add volume and light. The engine installation and fuel system have been reworked according newest market experience and know how. New construction materials have improved durability and outside weather resilience. As corporate policy, Flight Design never presents a new airplane until it is fully certified and ready for delivery.

Flight Design is a 21-year-old air sport products producer based in Germany. More than 1,000 of its aircraft are flying in 25 countries. One of the first aircraft certified under the American ASTM standards, in 2005, the CT (”composite technology”) is currently the best-selling LSA in America.
