PFL (aviation sports) in India

More info…

PFL(Practise Forced Landing)at Mysore with Sqr Cmd (retd) Ashok Mehta.

In India they practise with the engine switched off!

You also have to watch for people and goats crossing the runway…

It was a bit of a different experience to the sort of flying I’ve been doing in the UK with fixed wing aircraft.

Still, once you’re up in the air the principles remain the same.

What IS different are the microlight machines I flew.

Ashok gradually introduced me to flying with less and less equipment and instrumentation and hence I had to rely more and more on piloting skills and (so important ) airmanship.

I was surprised to find the flying a lot more enjoyable than I thought and I was only concerned with the pure act of flying the aircraft.

This is probably how aviators used to fly 70 or 80 years ago, feeling the aircraft literally “by the seat of their pants”.

The design of the Saab 9-4X BioPower Concept reflects a Scandinavian principle of simplicity of form, with clean and uncluttered lines, free of any cladding, moldings or roof bars, and defining “ice-block” surface and lighting themes. The progressive frontal styling and interior design elements also draw inspiration from Saab’s widely acclaimed Aero X concept. Innovative load-carrying solutions include a unique ski equipment stowage system, developed with mountain sports specialists Salomon.
